Sparkill is a hamlet located in the town of Orangetown in Rockland County, New York and is located about 25 miles from New York City. Sparkill is surrounded by the communities of Palisades, Piermont and Tappan. The zip code of Sparkill is 10976 and the hamlet includes a US post office.

Sparkill is a heavily wooded suburban community with mostly residential areas consisting of single family homes in beautiful tree-lined streets.

Main roads passing through Sparkill are US Route 9W and New York State Route 340, both which run in the north-south direction and host many local businesses and other important facilities. Sparkill has great access to Palisades Interstate Parkway (Exits 4 & 5), limited access highway that offers a scenic drive that runs to New York City via the George Washington Bridge.

Sparkill is separated from the Hudson River by the Tallman Mountain State Park, which includes a swimming pool, running track, tennis courts, athletic field, cross country skiing, a walking trail, hiking and picnic areas all in a heavily wooded environment. On its east side, Tallman Mountain State Park overlooks the scenic Piermont marshes and the Hudson River. Sparkill Memorial Park includes a veteran’s monument and a playground, located between Route 340 and between the commercial railroad line that runs through the hamlet. The Sparkill-Palisades Baseball League is a youth baseball league for boys and girls that’s played at Legion Field, which includes lights for night games.

Additional recreational facilities and areas in Sparkill include the Rockland Country Club, a private club that features an 18 hole championship golf course, driving range, pro shop, clubhouse, swimming pool, and har-tru tennis courts.

Sparkill is home to Saint Thomas Aquinas College, a private four year liberal arts college that serves over 2,000 students and includes on-campus residential villages for students to live in. In Athletics, Saint Thomas Aquinas College Spartans are affiliated with NCAA Division II, ECAC and compete in the East Coast Conference (ECC.)

Public school students of Sparkill are within the excellent South Orangetown Central School District.

Sparkill is home to the Rockland Cemetery, which covers over 150 acres and is one of the largest cemeteries in the county. Rockland Cemetery was established in 1847 by Eleazar Lord, first president of the Erie Railroad. One of the most famous graves in Rockland Cemetery is of John Charles. Fremont, California’s first senator who was also a presidential candidate for the Republic Party. Additionally, Sparkill is home to the Hopson-Swan House Estate, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Bordering Sparkill is the IBM Palisades, an executive conference center that features state of the art facilities to accommodate some of the most important business meetings in the tri-state area.
